 FAITH & LIFE News

Our latest update offers many faith opportunities. I often hear that someone didn't know about an event they would have attended. So please share the contents with others.

Diocesan Pastoral Planning – What's Happening?
OVER 300 PEOPLE GATHER TO DRAFT GOALS FOR DIOCESE. Our first diocesan pastoral plenary session was held on Saturday, 26 June at St Mary Star of the Sea College, Wollongong. Over 320 people were in attendance to pray together and prioritise the issues which emerged from consulting with over 2000 people earlier in the year. The gathering offered draft goals for the Diocese. Working Groups will now be formed from those at the gathering and other interested people, to consider what actions are needed to address the goals. These draft actions will be taken to our next plenary on Saturday, 18 September (please note new date) where those gathered can consider and offer further recommendations. You are invited to this next gathering. Also, please keep informed and offer your feedback via our website www.ourjourneyahead.org.au

Are you looking to enrich your knowledge of our faith?
Do you want to know more about God, our Church, our sacraments and the Bible? The Beginning Theology course is a fully accredited course designed for people who have not done further study but want to seriously examine their faith at deeper level. Cost is negotiable and course contains a mixture of personal study and group work. Interested participants include grandparents wanting to share their faith with grandchildren, new Catholics and those involved in ministry or those with extra time on their hands wanting to explore what their faith offers. To find out more and obtain an information pack, please contact Shane Dwyer asap on shane.dwyer@woll.catholicorg.au or 4253 0822.

Many Cultures, One Christ - Diocesan Mass
You are invited to celebrate the many cultures which make up our Diocese at a special Diocesan Mass followed by multicultural fair.
St John Vianney's Church, Fairy Meadow, 2.00pm.

31 October
Diocesan Celebration for the Canonisation of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to publicly witness to our faith and to celebrate the first Australian to become a canonised saint of the Church. It is an occasion too, to celebrate Blessed Mary MacKillop's contribution, personally and through her Sisters, to the development of the faith and of Catholic education. Many young women of the Diocese have been called to follow Mother Mary of the Cross and to serve the Church and society as Sisters of St Joseph.  The celebration on 31 October at 2.30pm will take the form of a dramatic musical interpretation of the spirituality of Blessed Mary of the Cross, performed by young people of the Diocese. This will be followed by Solemn Mass of St Mary of the Cross. After Mass, refreshments will be served.  This diocesan celebration will be the principal opportunity for the Church of the Diocese - the laity, religious and clergy - to claim St Mary of the Cross as our own.
