• Prayer in suffering
• When God is absent.

The Lenten program is furthered enhanced with reflections from Diocese of Wollongong parishioners on their life of prayer and weekly Prayer Points offering practical advice.

A Pro-Life Prayer for Public Officials

A Pro-Life Prayer for Public Officials

Lord God, Author of Life and Source of Eternal Life, move the hearts of all our public officials and especially our Prime Minister and the US President, to fulfill their responsibilities worthily and well to all those entrusted to their care. Help them in their special leadership roles, to extend the mantle of protection to the most vulnerable, especially the defenseless unborn, whose lives are threatened with extermination by an indifferent society. Guide all public officials by your wisdom and grace to cease supporting any law that fails to protect the fundamental good that is human life itself, which is a gift from God and parents. You are the Protector and Defender of the lives of the innocent unborn. Change the hearts of those who compromise the call to protect and defend life. Bring our nation to the values that have made us a great nation, a society that upholds the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Mary, the Mother of the living, help us to bear witness to the Gospel of Life with our lives and our laws, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Imprimatur: January 22, 2009 + Most Reverend Robert J. Baker Bishop of Birmingham in Alabama (Modified for Australia)

OCF Charity Challenge

Dear Fellow Leather Jackets,

From the 21st of May and for most of June I will be participating in “La Bella Italia” cycle challenge.  This will be an exciting journey through Italy but poses two major challenges for me.

Firstly, needless to say, the distance will be one of them, but I’m sure that is surmountable.  We start from Palermo on May 22nd and arrive in Como on the 23rd June.  What an adventure!

Secondly, this is an event that supports The Oncology Children’s Foundation.  OCF is a not-for-profit Children’s Charity exclusively devoted to raising funds for medical research into finding a cure for childhood cancer.

I can only try to imagine the situation of a child with cancer or leukaemia, the pain that they have to endure and the pressure placed on friends and family. For many the pain never comes to an end. Over 700Australian children under the age of 16 are diagnosed with cancer every year. Tragically, their mortality rate is on in four.

My pain will end when I cross the finish line at La Madonna del Ghisallo in the middle of Il Lago di Como

If you have five minutes please take time to have a look at OCF’s website at www.ocf.com.au With only three office staff they raised $2.11m last financial year for the Oncology Research Unit (ORU) at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. The ORU is one of seven major children’s cancer research units in the world that work as one for the benefit of all children with cancer, no matter where they live.

It will take you less that 3 minutes to sponsor me online and it could save the life of a child with cancer.  All donations greater than $2 are tax deductible.

To access my webpage on Everyday Hero go to www.everydayhero.com.au/elizabeth_buscaino where you can make a tax deductible donation using your credit card.

Alternatively, if more convenient I am happy to receive any donations directly and will ensure that you receive a tax receipt.

Any support you can give me would be very much appreciated.

I am sending this email early as I leave Australia at the end of March to visit my family in the UK (and to train in the Scottish hills!) before meeting my cycling companions for the Challenge in Palermo.  So please take action now!

Many thanks and best wishes,

Liz
