Cardinal Pell given Korean "Award for Life"

.- The Archbishop of Sydney, Australia, Cardinal George Pell, was awarded with the "Grand Prix Mysterium Vitae" established by the Archdiocese of Seoul, South Korea.

The award is granted every year to "an international personality who stands out for their support for the cause of life."

The Archdiocese of Seoul said in a statement that one of the reasons why Cardinal Pell was selected for the award was his creation and support of an Australian campus for the John Paul II Institute for Life and the Family.

Fwd: Monthly News

Greetings LeatherJackets!

Find attached the monthly news from Masters Swimming. The database is
still not working but all our new and renewal details have been sent
through to the office.

On a bright note, Liverpool came second in the Division 4 (not the
police show) pointscore from 13 clubs and so are now promoted to
Division 3. Among others we topped Sandbern, Cook & Philip, SOPAC, and
Lane Cove. Maitland blitzed the competition. Congratulations to all.

See you in the pool!
Sean

Some Life Advice

There's some mighty fine advice in these words that arrived in my email box:

ONE.
Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO.
Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational
skills will be as important as any other.

THREE.
Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR.
When you say, 'I love you,' mean it.

FIVE.
When you say, 'I'm sorry,' look the person in the eye.

SIX.
Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN.
Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT.
Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE.
Love deeply and passionately. You
might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

TEN..
In disagreements, fight fairly.. No name calling.

ELEVEN.
Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE.
Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN! ..
When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask,
'Why do you want to know?'

FOURTEEN.
Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN.
Say 'bless you' when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN..
When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

SEVENTEEN.
Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and
Responsibility
for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN.
Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN.
When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY.
Smile when picking up the phone.
The caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY- ONE.
Spend some time alone.

Astounding Statistics

I heard an astounding figure on the radio the other day that I just
had to check against some other data. Having done some research I am
even more astounded.

The figure I heard was that there are 4,000 legal abortions every DAY
in the U.S. This seemed like an awfully high number, so I checked it
out. In fact, it appears that presently there are a little over 3,500
legal abortions every DAY in the U.S. which is slightly down on the
peak.

My initial thought was how this compared to the number killed by
terrorists in the September 11 attack on the WTC. By way of comparison
there were 2,999 people killed in the 9/11 attacks. Given the reaction
to that event I wonder why there is so little worry about the abortion
figure.

I delved a little further and found that the number of coalition
forces killed in the entire Iraq War now stands at 4,230 including
3,923 U.S.

In addition to the U.S. figures, according to one source (although I
have yet to cross-verify this, but their US figure is in the right
ball-park) the number of legal abortions world-wide is over 126,000
every DAY.

Do these figures surprise you? They certainly did me! I had no idea
that the number was so high. I cannot believe that there are that many
deformed babies or pregnancies resulting from rape, which are the
usual excuses cited for legalising of abortion.

What do you think? Does this bother you at all?

Yours in astonishment,
Sean

Hello 2008

I'm back on deck and ready for 2008. I have some photo's from my trip
to visit the relatives in Queensland that I must put up on the web for
viewing.

It was a very wet week in Surfers Paradise, with little opportunity
for beach-going. We did however go to the womens tennis at Royal
Pines. As far as I can recall, this is the first time I have ever gone
to an actual tennis event. The sail cover kept the court dry for play
despite all the rain, so it was very interesting.

The drive up and back was pretty good, apart from the stretch between
Grafton and Surfers, in both directions, as this was where the weather
conditions meant some serious concentration on the road was required.
