Friday - (c) Sean Donovan 1988

© Sean Donovan 1988

Friday

There's a man reading a book at night,
There are others sitting on his bookshelf.
There are places he's seen and places he's been:
The journey never seems to end.

There's a woman ironing trousers in the morning:
There lie shirts and collars on the table.
There's a big wide world out on her doorstep
There just waiting to be read.

Now I wonder if you wonder too:
Does hell form a hole in heaven
Or does heaven form a hole in hell?
Take a tea break at eleven,
Knock off when you hear the bell.
Watch a show that's on at seven.
See those advertisers sell, sell, sell ...

It's a wonder that I wonder, you can tell.

There's a city far out of sight,
There on the horizon distant.
There are people on their way there:
They're all in a line now.

Tell me if you wonder too:
Does hell form a hole in heaven
Or does heaven form a hole in hell?
Like a great Indian chieftan:
"Oh how you're looking well".
Don't pass no bread unleaven
Unless you can sell, sell, sell ....

It's a wonder the I wonder, you can tell.

There's an empty can of spraypaint lying
There inside the mighty brickpit.
There are colours it has spread around:
The wall will tell the tale.

"Paint it up!".

There's a place of golden towers;
There are roads of gems and diamonds;
There are lakes of wine and honey
That sparkle in the morning sun.
Now wonder, if you will, like me:
Does hell form a hole in heaven
Or does heaven form a hole in hell?
It's an ever endless endeavour
To break that never ending spell
Cast by a magician
To make them sell, sell, sell ....

It's a wonder that I wonder, you can tell.

There's a wonder
There's a diamond
There's a ruby
There's a pearl
There's a colour
There's a tower
There's a heaven
There's a hell
There's a Chieftan
There's a woman
There's a man
There's a bell
There's a desktop
There's a journey
There's a break
There's a sell
There's a brickpit
There's a spraycan
There's a hole
There's a well

Boom, Boom, Boom!
Bang, Bang, Bang! (you're dead)
Take this cup from me (there's a wonder)
Open the door and let me (there's a diamond)
Boom, Boom, Boom! (there's a Ruby)
When I get out I'll (there's a pearl)
Bang, Bang, Bang! (there's a colour)
It's all gone red (there's a tower)
For the lost magician (there's a heaven)
Boom, Boom, Boom! (there's a hell)
Bang, Bang, Bang! (there's a chieftan)
I wanna tell you straight (there's a woman)
Not beat around the bush (there's a man)
You know what I'm trying to say (there's a spraycan)
Boom, Boom! (there's a hole)
Bang, Bang!

Here we go again.

There's a place where it all takes shape
There amongst the grass and treetops.
There are ways to get to that place -
That's what I am told.

Now I wonder if you wonder too:
Does hell form a hole in heaven
Or does heaven form a hole in hell?
Is it long till the start of never
Or are you sure you never fell?
Bring your cash with you to heaven
And be prepared to sell, sell, sell ...

Sell, sell, sell.
You can tell.
It's a wonder that you wonder.
Sell, sell, sell.
tell, tell, tell.
I can wonder, wonder can you too?
Tell, tell, tell.
You can sell.
You can sell.
You can tell.
